General Information:
The shrine of Lord Sundareswarar and Mother Meenakshi is on the south of Lord Muruga shrine with a wedding hall on 24 pillars opposite to these shrines speaking volumes of sculptural skill of Tamilnadu. Saints Tirugnana Sambandar, Appar, Sundarar, Manickavasagar, Kamadenu pouring its milk on Shivalinga, Kannappa Nayanar, Parvathi-Parameswara wedding, sage Markandeya, Lords Muruga and Vinayaka and Dasavatharas are very realistically depicted in the pillars before the Lord shrine. The pillars before the shrine of Mother have such beautiful expressions of Mothers Saraswathi, Mahalakshmi, Kamakshi, Kali, Mari Amman, Arthnareeswara, Govardhana Giridhari, Lord Sri Rama, Mother Sita, Sri Hanuman and Kalinga Nardana Kannan.
Devotees observe Rahu kala Puja to Mother Durga on Tuesdays between 3.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and on Fridays between 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. to avoid delays in marriage proposals.

Devotees carry milk pots, perform abishek to Lord and punch their cheeks (Alagu Kuthal in Tamil) as their prayer commitments.
Greatness Of Temple:
The temple is facing east with one Prakara. The Rajagopuram is opposite the shrine of Lord Shiva. There is a design work before the shrine of Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga in the sanctum sanctorum graces the devotees with His consorts Valli and Deivanai with one face and four hands. He is in a sitting posture holding Shakti and Vajram weapons in the upper hands. His lower hands are with assuring symbols – Abhaya and Varada Mudras. The peacock with its head on the left side is known as Deva Mayil. The idol of Lord Muruga with the covering frame-Tiruvachi, and the peacock is made of a single stone. Valli and Deivanai appear with a flower in one and show the Katya Valambitha mudras in the other hand. The stone frames at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum have two sculptures believed to be that of King Sundara Pandya and his queen. The Panchaloka idols of Lord Nataraja and Mother Sivakami are in the Mahamandap.
Pujas and alankaras are dedicated to Lord Rama and Mother Sita with gold coverings on Sri Rama Navami (February-March) and on Vaikunda Ekadasi day (December-January). The roof of the mandap has also sculptures of the Zodiac sign. There is also a Yazhi (a lion-like animal with three rings hanging from its mouth as a chain. Lords Dakshinamurthi, Ligothbava and Mother Durga are in the Shiva Prakara. There are also shrines for Chandikeswara, Lord Vinayaka and Bhairava.
Pollalchi Murugan Mummani Kovai, Kandan Pillai Thamizh, Pollachi Subramaniyar Irattai Mani Malai are the bhakti literatures of pandits of this place speaking the glory of Lord Muruga.
Temple History:
The name of the place Pollachi has two stories behind it. Among the weekly shandies in the state, Pollachi ranks foremost and has the reputation of being an economic centre of the district. Buying and selling take place here in large volumes.
As Porul (things or commodities) does the Aatchi (rule the trading), the place came to known as Porul Aatchi which later changed as Pollachi. Pollachi was also fertile with green fields, flower gardens and trees. The place was full of Pozhils (gardens). Greenery Ruled (Aatchi) the place and thus the name Pozhil Aatchi came which too in the years following changed as Pollachi.
The temple was built during the period of Kongu Sundara Pandian and Kongu Tribhuvana Chakravarthi Vikrama Chola according to epigraphic findings. There is also one such detail on the southern wall of the temple showing the name of the temple as Thiru Agatheeswaram Udayar belonging to the sixth year of the rule of King Perum Padappu Sorupam of Kochi royal family. Hence, this could have been a famous Shiva temple in the past.
